Reckling, KEVIN, Diode (first show)

Kelsey Reckling has been writing songs for over a decade. Originally from Houston, Texas, she moved to Los Angeles in 2013 and released her debut album under the name RECKLING in 2018. Influenced by punk rock from an early age, her songs lean heavily into the guitars while also embracing vocal melodies. She only began performing live with her band in late 2019, and as Razorcake Magazine describes: "Reckling's debut album is loaded with hooky, captivating punk rock songs--a perfect album from start to finish. Their shows should never be missed."

Kevin is a band made up of Quincy Larsen (synth, guitar, vocals), Kimi Recor (synth, guitar, vocals), Walker Ashby (bass, chaos magick) and Julian Smith (drums, eye candy).

Hailing from Berlin, Austin, San Francisco and Phoenix, the band met and formed in Los Angeles via playing throughout the DIY music scene and sharing a common taste in music and free items on craigslist.

Pulling influences from a diverse range of genres, including doom-metal, minimal synth, 90s techno, and experimental ambient noise, Kevin’s multi-faceted and diverse sound is ready to slice your face open and then promptly kiss it better.

Diode is a Los Angeles synth punk fever-dream featuring members of The Freakees, Shark Toys, Vaguess, and Wild Wing. Their 2020 self-titled release serves as a perfect addition to a time capsule from the disastrous year in which it was made. The music is paranoid and the instruments in constant conflict with one another, topped with the snotty and sardonic vocals by KT Green. While it obviously draws from the past—The Screamers, Kleenex, etc— it sounds like it could’ve been made any time between the late 70s and present day and would be equally as jarring and confusing to the listener at any point in time. You’re either in by the end of the intro on the opening track, or you’re out. Bon voyage!
